Bid Questions







Question
Regarding specification 33 17 10 – 1.1 – I, the available rectangular opening to lower the gate valves into the ROFC is 70” x 72”. Therefore, the length of the hatch from corner to corner across the hypotenuse of the opening would be just over 100”. The 48” gate valve we intend to bid with has a width across the widest part of the valve (Bonnet Flange) of 75.5” and this portion of the valve has a width of 34-1/4” (Width of bonnet flange). Could this dimension be accommodated on site if the valve was rotated so the 48” flanges would be parallel to the hypotenuse across the opening? If not, would a partial bid / award be allowed for just the 42” valves on the project. A preliminary drawing can be provided for evaluation if needed.
Answer Per the Owner's Engineering Department and Equipment Installation staff; the outside dimensions provided by the Bidder for the 48 inch gate valve will prevent the passage of their valve into this ROFC station via the hatch and maintenance hoistway. Unfortunately, based on the 48" valve dimensions provided on this question, we are not able to consider this valve for this reason. Also, the Owner's Engineering and Maintenance staffs do not want to install different valve brands into the ROFC station because they want to keep maintenance and operations of the equipment consistent at each location.
