The City of Henderson is calling on artists to design and create one unique mural for the outside wall of the public restroom structure at Dundee Jones Park (currently under construction). This mural will be part of the new 6-acre park located at Horizon Ridge Parkway and Jeffreys Street, the future home of an adventure dog park, pickleball courts and playground.
The wall is approximately 33’4” wide and 8’ tall (total +/- 265 square feet). The interactive wall of art will encourage and invite park visitors to take photos as part of the canvas.
The mural must encapsulate the fly-fishing theme that is carried out throughout this new park to honor the late Dundee Jones, an avid fly fisherman and former parks and recreation pioneer who, when he was little, would look for puddles from the rain so he could “fish” in them. Throughout his life Dundee spent time with his family fishing all over the state of Nevada and other nearby lakes. He even created his own fly-fishing fly, the Dundee’s Dandy, which he would often wear on his baseball hat. The mural should focus on his love for fly fishing but could also include snippets of his overall contribution to the development of parks and recreation facilities, parks and trails in Henderson.
One artist or artist team will be chosen for this project. Selected artist will have one week to complete the mural and must be completed by no later than March 18, 2023. The mural cannot begin prior to March 1, 2023 (since that is the current date of substantial completion) but must be completed by no later than March 18, 2023. Selected artist/artist teams will be rewarded up to $8,000.00 for the selected mural space.
